How To Remove Gum From Clothes

Some call it candy, some call it mouth freshener - whatever it is, chewing gum is still all people's favorite. Because of this, it is possible to have a gum stuck in your clothes, furniture, carpet and even your hair. When gum sticks on the cloth, it remains on the cloth even if you have already removed almost all of it. In this article, you will find some effective ways on how to take off the gum from clothes.

There are cleaning products available in the market for removing gum. However, these products may contain strong chemicals which can lighten the fabric's color or weaken it aside from the fact that they are very expensive. It is great to know that there are cleaning strategies that can remove gum in fabrics with the use of ingredients that can easily be found in the cabinet of the kitchen.

One effective way to take the gum off your clothes is through the use of ice. Put ice on the cloth with gum for 15-20 minutes. The gum will harden making it much easier to scrape off using dull knife. You can also place the cloth inside the refrigerator for one hour to harden the gum.

Boiling water is also said to be effective in taking off chewing gum from clothes. All you need to do is dip the cloth with gum in a pail of boiling water. After few minutes, the gum will soften and melt thus it is much easier to remove. You can now scrape it with a knife. Wash the cloth then let it dry. If the gum is still there, you can do the process again.

Petrol and gasoline are also proven to be great gum remover. Only handle it with care for it is highly flammable. Simply drop a little amount of gasoline on the area of the gum and scrub until it is fully removed. Remove the odor of the petrol from the cloth by washing it thoroughly with detergent.

Peanut butter can be used if you don't like petrol or gasoline. Put a reasonable amount of peanut butter where the gum has stuck and let it stay till the gum softens. Remove the gum by scraping it and immediately wash it prevent stain.

Among the many ways of removing gum, using vinegar is the most known method. Scrub vinegar on the stuck gum using toothbrush. Repeat the procedure until the chewing gum is totally removed.

Now you have learned how to remove gum from fabrics and cloth effectively without using expensive cleaners. These ways are affordable and you can be certain that your clothes will never be harmed.
