When Jimmie Vaughan designed the Fender Artist Series guitar, he wanted to make it a simple instrument with more powerful pickups and a softer neck. Fender had subsequently made this guitar in its Mexican based plant. Vaughan's concept had ultimately led to the popular guitar that indeed has the two most distinguished features: powerful pickups and a soft "V" shape neck.
With Tex-Mex vintage type pickups used for the neck and middle pickups, they sound lounder when compared to most single-coiled strat pickups. They have more bass and high ends. Yet, they still have the Strat like sound.
Alnico 5 magnets which are more magnetic than other regular magnets are used for this guitar. The middle pickup uses reverse winding with which you can get hum canceling when the pickup selector is set at positions 2 and 4. The neck pickup is a Tex-Mex pickup, a part of the Tex/Mex pickup set. It seems to sound louder and this is probably because it has got more winds of wire on it.
The neck is made of a single-piece maple. It has a soft "V" shape. This is specifically what Vaughan wants - the look and feel of maple neck.
Since the fretboard is maple there is no problem of the neck twisting because of temperature. The radius of the neck is 9.5 inches with 21 medium jumbo frets. Both of these signify a good guitar for both lead and rhythm playing.
The nut width is standard and the headstock has Vaughan's signature on the back. The machine heads are made of Fender/Gotoh vintage type tuners. The neck is maple smooth which feels really nice and allows you to play the guitar with ease and comfort.
This strat is not going to get in your way while you are playing. The jumbo frets are built for even more sustain and tone. It allows you to play with ease of bending the notes and improved overall playability.
