Necessary Poker Supplies For A Home Game

By Adriana Noton

Poker has been quietly infiltrating the common Joe's homes for years now. What started in the casinos has found its way to prime time television and turned it into large sporting events. Now is a great time to gather some poker supplies and have your own home game.

A standard thing that almost every home game has is a set of poker chips that resemble a casino's. They can be easily found in most sporting good stores as well as many stores that sell toys. They come in solid traveling cases, making them easy to transport and store. Using the chips gets the player in the action a little more and really sets the scene. It also allows for a more family friendly game that does not have to include playing for real money.

What goes better with poker chips than a poker table? A portable poker surface can be found most places the chips are found. It includes a felt surface with all the proper markings on it to set the scene even more. They really kept portability in mind when designing these, because they commonly fold up and include handles for easy carrying. When not using it, just tuck it in a corner until the next home game.

It's tough to get through a night of poker and not have proper refreshments. It is important to offer small snack life foods and plenty of beverage options to keep people in the game and keep playing through the hours. Poker is certainly not the easiest game to quit playing, so stocking up for as long as 3 to 4 hours is important. And of course people will need something to snack on when you have taken all their money. It makes losing a little less bitter.

The most important tool of a poker game has to be a deck of cards. Most people can rummage through a couple of drawers and be able to pull out an old used deck that may be a little rough around the edges. However, it is important to use a new and proper deck, with unmarked cards so that the game remains fair.

Along with cards, it would be nice to have an automatic card shuffler. Some people are shuffling impaired and may become embarrassed to be the dealer. After every hand the deck needs to be reshuffled and needs to be done correctly. This is one poker supply that is not necessary but would save countless amounts of time and save the embarrassment.

Before starting any of this, it is important to know exactly how to play. Strategy is everything in this game of luck, and a simple guide or how-to book could be just the thing to give you the edge over your opponents. There are a lot of terms and rules of etiquette to learn, and it is hard to host a game without knowing exactly what you are doing.

Poker is an intense game of strategy, persistence and luck. It is as difficult as it is fun and is a joy and a reward to start mastering playing cards. And unlike most games, when you finally master this game, it will literally pay off.
