Choosing a Ski Holiday in Europe

By Craig Walker

There are many areas in Europe where you can enjoy a ski holiday. Europe contains fantastic terrain and conditions that are perfect for winter sports. Historically the countries of Italy, France, Austria, Andorra and Switzerland were popular ski holiday destinations. However today you can have a great holiday wherever you find snow and a mountain.

France is a popular ski holiday destination as it has the French Alps and is also close proximity to the UK. Additionally France has the largest lift and piste system in the world. There are many ski chalets found in France including some of the world's best; Meribel, Tignes, Courchevel, Val D'Iseres, Alpe D'Huezs and Chamonix.

The next raining ski destination in the world is Austria. Besides the excellent skiing, Austria has picturesque landscapes and some of the best service in the world. In Austria you can find ski resorts suited for all skiing levels and no matter your ski level you will be sure to have a great time.

Switzerland contains some of the most rugged, highest and toughest runs found in the Alps. Unlike the ski chalets in France, Swiss ski resorts are built around mountain villages offering more than just a ski holiday. Skiing in the Swiss Alps is a most for those serious skiers and snowboarders. There are also many intermediate slopes to be found in the country but new skiers should beware.

Italian has some excellent ski areas, in the Alps and Dolomites in northern Italy. Italian skiing is also less expensive than skiing in Switzerland, France and Austria. Italy is ideal for the beginning or less confident skier and also has the most amount of ski runs found in Europe. The Italian ski resorts are both modern and traditional at the same time, promising a not to be missed skiing experience.
